Number 1# Write articles in the Blog section of your website
Your blog is very important, write open, honest, real articles sharing your knowledge in your area of expertise, include a keyword in the title and the first paragraph, new content is important to improve your organic search results.
Number 2 # User experience
Don’t limit the user experience to articles, think about visitors site wide, answer questions you think they would like an answer to, try a Q & A page, be clear about what you would like them to do. When writing a blog or an article think about a topic the user would like to learn, answer them quickly and thoroughly first up. Don’t bury it in the article.
Number 3 # Build your reputation
A great user experience is going to help build your reputation.
✓ Join networking groups
✓ Social media groups
✓ Get your name out there
✓ Be helpful, give good advice where you can
✓ Get to know people
✓ Attend Workshops to increase your knowledge, if you are confident, offer workshops.
Number 4 # Clean formatting
Make sure the formatting on any page is readable, indicate the relevance of paragraphs with the use of headings and sub-headings. Give the reader ‘white space’ ie room between sentences.
In order to reap SEO benefits from your post, or article it is essential that your post follows a certain standard structure, consisting of:
- Title: A title gives a sneak peek on what the article is all about to the readers.
- No matter how good the main body of the article is, if it doesn’t have an equally tempting title, it would remain deprived from any attention, which is the last thing you would want.
- Post format: This is the main body of the post where you will do the talking. It is highly recommended to format your post accordingly, by making proper use of H2 and H3 tags for maximum search engine visibility. Further, try to give subheads and pointers in the post to enhance its readability.
- Featured Image: Featured image or a post thumbnail is a representative image that comes next to your post. It is essential that you use a proper featured image with your posts. It would not only attract readers, but would also add to the aesthetic appeal of your website. Name the image to reflect the post or article, include the keyword and make sure you fill out the ‘alt’ text, you will see this when you upload an image into your media file.
Number 5 # SSL (secure site)
Your website needs to read https not http, Most hosts these days offer a FREE SSL certificate as par for the course. Ask your host, if they want to charge you, change your host! A blog post from 2018-
Number 6 # Connect to GOOGLE
If we set up your website, as part of the service we connect you to GOOGLE Console but it is also important that you set up a Google My Business Profile, to do this you will need to have your site and business address verified. If you have a store front, customers can easily find you if you work from home, you can at least give an area. Include a map if possible. Let your customers know trading hours
We are not SEO Consultants, we are web designers – this is an important difference. We provide on-page SEO services; however, we do not guarantee or provide Page 1 Google Ranking services on Google. Having a website will not bring you new clients immediately without regular and continual efforts. Winning Google’s love does take time and you must be patient while your website gets discovered, this can take up to 90 days. Once your site is indexed, this is just the start of your SEO journey and you need to take ownership of your site implementing SEO strategies to increase your organic ranking.
Your website does not end here! You must continue to work on your website ranking, this is an ongoing task and not a set and forget part of your business. In order to get the best results for your site and to increase traffic in the long term, you must continue to make consistent efforts to boost your website ranking, such as adding new content, regularly creating blog articles, creating links back to your site and building a social media campaign.
Using Yoast for SEO
So you have written your blog, written some content for your pages, resized and named your images etc, now it is time to take care of the general public finding your blog, you do this by scrolling around and finding the built in Yoast SEO checklist.
Long tail search phrases are highly relevant to specific niches and usually reflect searcher’s intent more precisely compared to generic phrases. You can then choose a part of the first paragraph, highlight it then copy/paste into the snippet area. At time of writing the recommended length of the snippet is 156 characters.
What we need here is green lights, don’t get too hung up on everything turning green, though. According to my source, the most important part is to add what should be your first paragraph or long tailed description. When you do a search, think about what google returns as a result, the phrase will contain words that you used in your search.
As an example: (I searched for dog walkers Sydney.)
The Result: Given 5 Stars by GOOGLE
“So, use Pawshake to find a local Sydney dog walker and let us help you continue to be a great pet parent. Using a dog walker has many great benefits for your dog’s health and wellbeing. Our Sydney dog walkers provide your dogs with exercise and attention while you are away or at work.”
Try to make it easy to read by
- Bolding words that may be of interest to the reader
- Spacing out your paragraphs.
- Make full use of sub-headings.
- Use images
Choose a unique keyword
- Make sure it is in the page name heading
- In the sub-heading
- The first paragraph. (should contain long tail search phrase)
- Name your images and try to include the keyword, fill in the ‘alt’ description for the benefit of sight impaired people
Categories and Tags
It is also a good idea to give the blog a category, This helps with Search Engines, locating your blog and it’s relevant information. If you don’t, then the article will, by default be ‘uncategorized. You should also use tags, find words in your post that people might use in a search, create the tags (see images) type and separate them with commas.
Yoast recommends an article length of 900 words
